Old Man Winter delivers dusting on area

Looks like the weather man called it this time.

Murray got a dusting of snow last night that left a little more than a quarter-inch of the white stuff all over city streets and county roads, resulting in the closing of Calloway County Schools and Murray Independent classes running one hour late.

Calloway County Road Department Supervisor Jodie Brooks said this morning after spending the morning laying coal cinders on roadways that it could have been worse.

“A lot of people said that it wasn't too bad, although I'm sure some of the intersections and stuff like that might be a little worse, but not too bad,” he said. “We're still out there checking for any more bad spots.”

Deana Lindstrom, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Paducah, said reports that have come in as of 8 a.m. indicate the western part of the state got about three-tenths of an inch of snow overall with possible higher accumulations scattered around.

“Cadiz got three-tenths; Dawson Springs got three-tenths; and we got three-tenths here at the office,” Lindstrom said. “That appears to be about what everyone is reporting.”

A chance of snow remains until mid-afternoon today with precipitation more likely to fall this afternoon, according to NWS officials. An accumulation of about another inch is expected with highs in the low 30s. The chance of precipitation this afternoon is 60 percent.
