CPE's Cowgill visits Murray
By ERIC WALKER Editor
Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education President Brad Cowgill spoke with Murray State University President Dr. Randy Dunn, Board of Regents Chair Alan Stout and other officials during a stop here Friday.
Cowgill is touring the state's universities speaking on the CPE's Double-the-Numbers plan to double Kentucky's degree holders to equal national figures by the year 2020 and how that translates on a regional scale.
Cowgill, along with CPE Chair John Turner and Vice-Chair Dan Flanagan, started their tour Oct. 15 at the University of Kentucky, then followed with visits to officials with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State and Northern Kentucky before visitng Murray.
Cowgill, formerly the state's budget director, said the plan grew from statistics which showed that Kentucky would need to reach an 800,000-graduate figure to equal the national numbers. But in the last census, the commonwealth only had approximately 400,000 degree holders.
