Officials say 13-year-old died after drowning at Lake Barkley

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Officials say a 13-year-old boy died a day after drowning in a Kentucky lake.

Lake Barkley State Park Manager John Rittenhouse said the child from Mississippi was attending a company picnic with his family and Fort Campbell soldiers on Friday.

He said the boy, whose name was not released, was swimming at the state park beach when he went under the water.

Emergency officials performed CPR then transported the child to Trigg County Hospital. He was then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he died Saturday.
