CCHS is site for Beshear's town hall stop

Gov. Steve Beshear is planning a town hall meeting at Calloway County High School as part of an effort to give Kentucky residents a chance to tell Frankfort politicians what needs to be done about the Commonwealth's budget challenges.

Beshear's office confirmed Monday that the meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, inside the school's auditorium on College Farm Road. The meeting is one of 13 to take place across the state as part of “Beshear About Kentucky” Governor's Town Hall Series.

In a public statement posted on the governor's Web site, Beshear says the meetings will give Kentucky residents a chance for direct input into decisions he and the General Assembly will make in January. Pointing out the state's economic challenges, Beshear says he wants Kentuckians to talk to him about their concerns and make suggestions.

“Shared misery is no excuse for doing nothing. We must move forward,” he said. “An important part of doing that is listening to you; the people of this Commonwealth. You are the ones making tough decisions every day to find better ways to provide for your families on limited budgets. State government must do the same. We need to hear from you.”

Calloway County residents are invited to bring their questions, concerns and ideas and discuss them during the forum.

“Together we can discuss ways to weather these tough times and be ready to maximize our advantages when the economy begins to turn around,” Beshear said. “Our best days are ahead of us if we are willing to work together, put politics aside, and do what is right for Kentucky's families.”

A final meeting to take place in the Purchase area is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Paducah Tilghman High School.
