Semi wreck closes 641 for 7 hours

HAZEL, Ky. - A semi-truck hauling X-ray equipment overturned on U.S. 641 South near Hazel Tuesday evening.
Lt. David Caldwell, a spokesman for Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement in Eddyville, said the truck, carrying an oversized load, overturned about a mile north of Hazel when it got too close to the edge of the road.
“The driver said he was having to allow for oncoming traffic and when he did the right shoulder of the road couldn't support the weight and the truck overturned. The rear wheels slipped off the road and pulled the rest of the vehicle with it,” Caldwell said.
Caldwell said the department is withholding release of a full report pending possible legal action, but said the truck belonged to LoneStar Transportation of Gainesville, Texas.
Whether the unidentified driver was hurt in the accident was not reported or not known.
Donna Stone, a spokeswoman for the company's corporate office in Fort Worth, Texas was unavailable for comment this morning.
