Commonwealth Accountability Testing System (CATS) scores were released today and showed Murray Independent and Calloway County school districts both above the state average of 82.2.
All Kentucky schools are expected to reach proficiency, which is 100 on a scale of zero to 140, by 2014.
Lisa Gross, public information officer for the Kentucky Department of Education, said the average composite score for elementary schools was 88.5. The average middle school score was 79.9 and the average high school score was 78.2. She said that 82.2 was the average score when looking at elementary, middle and high schools.
Murray Independent Schools released their 2008 scores, which showed a composite district score of 92.4. A release said that the scores placed the district second in the region, behind Graves County Schools, and 16th in the state. Murray High School's adjusted Kentucky Core Content Test, which is a major part of CATS, was 87.2, making them the second highest in the region.
For the first time in 2008, juniors were required to take the ACT college readiness test, which was also included in the accountability. MHS's ACT composite score was 20.1 out of a possible high score of 36.
Teresa Speed, MHS principal, said “We give credit to the relationships built by the staff with our students in reaching the high academic standards we believe is the long-standing tradition of Murray Independent.”
Murray Middle School's non-adjusted 2007-08 composite score for grades 6-8 was 102.3, while the score for grades 3-5 was 97.5. The combined 2007-08 index for MMS was 95.1.
