KSP: No suspect, no motive in fatal shooting

ALMO, Ky. -Kentucky State Police continue to investigate every possible source of information they hope will identify a suspect in the fatal shooting of an Elm Grove Road man.

Trooper Dean Patterson, a spokesman for KSP Post 1 in Mayfield, said this morning that a suspect in the case has not been identified. A reporter erred in Thursday's Ledger & Times in stating a suspect was sought, but remained at-large.

“We have not identified a suspect,” Patterson said. “They worked all day yesterday conducting interviews, but they are still in the process of trying to develop a lead.”

Victims in the crime have been identified as 60-year-old Jerry Eldridge Sr; the only fatality. However Eldridge's son, Eddie Eldridge, 33, and Melissa Price, 35, both suffered gunshot wounds, according to police.

Eddie Eldridge was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. A condition report is unavailable, according to hospital officials, because his injuries were related to a crime. Murray-Calloway County Hospital officials said Price was admitted, but released by the next day following treatment.

An unnamed juvenile was also in the home at the time of the shooting, but was reportedly not injured, according to Patterson.

An autopsy on Jerry Eldridge Sr. Wednesday morning at the state forensic lab in Madisonville resulted in a ruling of homicide.

The shooting was reported to the KSP officials at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday by a neighbor that apparently heard gunfire. Police arrived at the home to investigate; later cordoning off about a mile of roadway around the house in all directions the following morning while investigators searched for evidence on Wednesday.

Detectives canvassed and photograph the area inside and around the house Wednesday afternoon for evidence in the crime. A KSP forensics team from Frankfort remained on the scene for hours earlier in the day combing the residence for evidence.

Patterson said this morning there was no further word concerning the identity of the suspect, a motive in the crime, the type of weapon used or other details.
