“Road Closed” is the message the Kentucky Department of Highways wants to make sure motorists are aware of regarding a new four-laned stretch of Ky. 80 from U.S. 641 to Brinn Road in Murray. Transportation officials say the stretch will officially open around the Thanksgiving holiday and that it is unsafe use the blacktop before that time. |
‘Road Closed' means road's closed

The opening of a new four-lane section of Ky. 80 between Murray and Mayfield from U.S. 641 to Brinn Road will take place soon. But until then, stay off the road!
Keith Todd, a spokesman for Department of Highway's District 1 and District 2 offices in Paducah, said the section would be opened sometime around the end of November.
“Our paving crew got held up. They're going to have to do some wedging work there at the intersection with 641,” Todd said, “so we're looking at around Thanksgiving.”
In the meantime, DOH and Calloway County Sheriff's Department officials are urging drivers not to use the stretch illegally. Drivers have been spotted using the highway with several “Road Closed” signs clearly posted.
“One thing that we would want to remind people of is that if you drive on a road that is closed to traffic with ‘road closed' signs up and you have a crash, it is my understanding that your automobile insurance is no good,” Todd said.
Calloway County Sheriff Bill Marcum said the department has had reports of drivers using the section when they shouldn't and cautions that the section remains private property until it is officially opened.
