Two nabbed on drug charges after foot chase on Tuesday
Staff Report
The Murray Police Department arrested a Murray man yesterday on College Farm Road after officers chased him on foot.
Bruce Carter, 23, was charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree and evading police.
In an undercover operation conducted by Murray Police and the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, Carter allegedly sold 100 ecstasy pills to a PNTF agent. As detectives approached him, he fled on foot. Murray Police, the Calloway County Sheriff's Department and Murray State University Public Safety assisted in the pursuit.
Detectives had obtained and executed a search warrant for 914 Coldwater Rd. After the search, they also charged Marvin Williams, 21, of Murray, with possession of marijuana.
The estimated street value of the drugs seized in the investigation was more than $5,000.
“The main reason this is a significant arrest is due to the quantity and the hazards associated with ecstasy,” said Cheyene Albro, director of the PNTF, in a press release from Murray Police. “Ecstasy can potentially raise a person's core temperature to 107 degrees. That is why the drug has contributed to the deaths of young people across the country.”
“The hard work of the detectives and officers on the scene has taken an enormous danger off the streets,” said Chief Ken Claud, who was present during the investigation, arrest and foot chase of Carter. “The efforts of those involved was very impressive and deserve praise.”
