Former MSU head not in running for Kentucky CPE job

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A former president of Murray State University is not a candidate for the top spot at Kentucky's Council on Postsecondary Education.

The presidential search committee says Lexington native Constantine W. "Deno" Curris, is no longer a candidate. The statement mentions a "conflict of interest issue." Curris' wife has a position on the board of trustees at the University of Kentucky.

Curris said in a letter to the search committee that he would not be willing to take the job if his wife, Jo Hern Curris, had to resign her position, The Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

The statement says the committee is on track to choose a president before the end of the year.

The council's presidency has been vacant since September 2007, when Tom Layzell retired.
