American Legion meets Thursday

The American Legion Post 73 of Murray will meet Thursday, May 23, at the American Legion Veterans’ Hall at 310 Bee Creek Drive. Food and fellowship is at 6:30 p.m. and the business meeting starts at 7 p.m. All veterans are invited to attend.

The Calloway County Public Library Board of Trustees is now accepting applications for a trustee position. Applications may be found online at www.callowaycountylibrary.org/Employment. Used Book Sale to be at the CCPL

The annual Used Book Sale sponsored by the Friends of the Calloway County Library will be open to the public Tuesday, May 21, through Thursday, May 23, in the library community room. The sale is open from 8 am. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and the bag sale is from 8 am. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

CUBS will meet Wednesday

The Calloway United Benevolent Services (CUBS) will meet at noon Wednesday, May 22, at Glendale Road Church of Christ. The agenda will include information about the new regional cancer treatment center and the Enduring Hope campaign; an update on the future of the Angels Community Clinic; and the collaborative partnership with Kentucky CARE. Dr. Loreta Garretson and Brett Miles from the Cancer Treatment Center will speak, as will guests from Kentucky CARE, Dr. John Brazzell and Emerson Goodwin. MAG to offer summer workshops

The Murray Art Guild Community Art Center will host its summer workshops for youth and teens including clay, watercolor, paper arts, Fourth of July Bike-Art Brigade, Teen Make Studio, printmaking, willow, mixed media and more. RCUMC to open food/clothes pantry

Russell Chapel United Methodist Church will open its food pantry and clothes closet from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at 229 Rowlett Trail.

Nutrition program offers classes

Compassionate Friends to meet

The Compassionate Friends support group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the Jan and Kay Dalton Conference Room on the first floor of the North Tower of the Murray-Calloway County Hospital. This support group meets for the encouragement of bereaved parents who have lost children as a result of accident, illness or tragedy, regardless of their child’s age. Angels Attic seeks items

The Angels Attic Thrift Shop at 972 Chestnut St. is in need of items as it continues to provide funding for Angels Community Clinic and the Gentry House and provide assistance to other local agencies. Specific needs are clothing for all ages, furniture, appliances, household items and toys. Items can be received Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 270-762-0505 for pick-up.

Market and bake sale to be held

A May Market and Bake Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at the WoodmenLife Building at C.C. Lowry Drive. There will be raffles, giveaways, shopping and food. Proceeds will benefit the POSA Orphanage in Tanzania.

Memorial Day services planned

American Legion Post 73 of Murray will conduct commemorative ceremonies Monday, May 27, at various cemeteries in Calloway County and at the Post Veterans’ Hall. A commemorative ceremony will be at 9:15 a.m. at Elm Grove; 9:40 a.m. at Coldwater Church of Christ; 10:05 a.m. at Kirksey Baptist Church; 10:35 a.m. at the Billy Lane Lauffer gravesite in Murray Memorial Gardens; and 11 a.m. at the Murray City Cemetery. At 12:15 p.m., a ceremony will be at the American Legion Veterans’ Hall at 310 Bee Creek Drive.

Legion offers help to veterans   

Service officers Mark Kennedy, Bill Cowan and Ray Campbell of American Legion Post 73 will be available from 1-4 p.m. each Wednesday at 310 Bee Creek Drive to assist veterans and their families who need to file VA claim. No appointment is necessary, and all are served on a first-come/first-served basis. For more information, call Kennedy at 270-752-3333.
