MHS Alumni to meet Tuesday

The Murray (KY) Alumni and Friends Association will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the MISD Board Room on 13th Street. All alumni and friends are encouraged to attend.

Sew-A-Thon needs volunteers

The 2019 Sew-A-Thon needs volunteers to sew simple dresses which will be distributed on mission trips to Appalachia and Central America. Instructions and some embellishments are available. Garmets may be picked up at the Murray United Methodist Church Office at 503 Maple St. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.

AARP Driving class to be held

An AARP Driving Safety class will be from 8-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Murray-Calloway County Senior Citizens Center. The fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. To register, call the center at 270-753-0929.

CCPL Board will meet Tuesday

The Calloway County Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12. The public is invited to attend.

Memorial spaghetti dinner Feb. 15

Boy Scout Troop 45 will hold its first Kim Hopkins Memorial Spaghetti Dinner from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the First United Methodist Church Gymnasium. The dinner will include spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and a drink and ice cream from The Murray Bank Ice Cream Machine. All proceeds will be used to support Troop 45 in honor of the late Kim Hopkins, troop treasurer and adult leader. A trivia game will follow the meal, jeopardy-style, where participants can test if they are “Smarter Than A Boy Scout,” with prizes for the winning table. Reservations will be on sale for $10 per person from any troop member, or the suggested donation can be made at the door.

Fundraiser for Meals on Wheels planned

The Murray-Calloway County Senior Citizens Center will have a lasagna fundraiser Wednesday, Feb. 13. The menu is lasagna, steamed vegetable medley, garlic roll and apple crisp for $6. Orders must be placed by noon Tuesday, Feb. 12 and may be done by calling 270-753-0929, or by email at  Pick up will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13. All proceeds will benefit the Meals on Wheels program.

CC Genealogial Society will meet

The Calloway County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Randy Patterson will present “Calloway County Women and Elective Office: A Tentative Finding List and Some Biographical Sketches.” Because of threatening weather forecasts, the scheduled walking/driving tour of Fort Heiman has been postponed to March 12. Preschool activities offered

Stories and fun for preschoolers (3-5) will be at 6 p.m. every Wednesday at South Pleasant Grove Methodist Church at 5671 Crossland Road. Activities will include listening to books, games and crafts. The objective is to prepare kids to read in the first grade. Dinner for children and parents will be served at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.

MWC Home Dept. meets Thursday

The Home Department of the Murray Woman’s Club will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the clubhouse. The program is “Soup Is On/Valentine Party.” All members are hostesses.

Senior bowling available

Back Pack program needs items

Need Line needs to stock its shelves for the Back Pack program and needed are individual-size food items including 100 percent juice, Pop Tarts, single-serve cereal boxes, single-serve cheese and crackers, pudding cups, applesauce cups and single-serve fruit cups. MWC to host first marketplace

The first Murray Woman’s Club Marketplace will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in downtown Murray. This is a market for vendors selling fine arts, crafts, food, and will also include retail merchants. The market will be located around the court square and space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis once fees have been paid. Soup for the Soul serves weeknights
