Need Line updates items needed
Need Line has issued an updated request for items needed. They include mustard, potatoes, tea bags, bread, saltine crackers, pancake mix, pancake syrup, catsup, onions, Kool Aid, buns, peanut butter, pickle relish, pork and beans, sugar, Jiffy Mix, eggs, margarine, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, ground beef, hot dogs and chicken. Personal hygiene items are extremely low and needed are toilet paper, dish liquid, laundry detergent, soap, plastic storage bags (1- and 2-gallon sizes), and hotel or travel-size shampoo, lotions and soap. Large brown bags are also requested. Need Line is at 509 N. Eighth St. and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Need Line is a United Way agency. Writers Support Group meets Saturday
The Murray Writers Support Group will meet Saturday, June 8, at Brookdale of Murray. The meet and greet will be at 12:30 p.m. and the meeting will be from 1-3 p.m. Meetings are open to those interested in writing, both published authors and beginners. Fair entries will be taken Saturday
The family and consumer science entries for the Calloway County Fair will be accepted from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Judging will begin at 5 p.m. the same day. The 2019 Fair Division Rules and Categories have been updated this year and copies are available at the Calloway County Extension Office at 93 Extension Way. Murray SO to hold softball registration
The Murray Special Olympics will have registration for Special Olympics KY softball at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at the old Kirksey Ballpark, newly named Rockets Park at 3665 Kirksey Road. First Baptist Church will host a movie night from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 9, in the Family Life Center.
Marketplace seeks vendors
The first Murray Woman’s Club Marketplace will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in downtown Murray. This is a market for vendors selling fine arts, crafts, food, and will also include retail merchants. The market will be located around the court square and space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis once fees have been paid. CC Genealogical Society meets Tuesday
The Calloway County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at noon Tuesday, June 11, at the large pavilion at the Murray State University Arboretum. This meeting will be a brown bag lunch with bottled water and dessert cookies provided. The speaker will be Dr. Ernie Bailey, retired from the Pogue Library at Murray State. He will discuss highlights of the history of Murray and will pay tribute to Mable Pullen, whose farm is where the Arboretum is located. All interested are invited to attend. Donations needed for used book sale
The Murray Middle School Band is preparing for its annual Fourth of July Used Book Sale on the front lawn of Murray Middle School. The funds raised through this annual sale will go toward transportation and special instruction for the upcoming school year. Donations of gently used books, games, puzzles and toys may be left at the front office of the school until the end of June.

The Murray Star Chapter No. 433 Order of the Eastern Star will meet Tuesday, June 11. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. and the meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
Kirksey UMC to host breakfast
Kirksey United Methodist Church will host a community breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, June 8. A traditional breakfast of bacon, sausage, gravy, eggs and biscuits will be served. Donations will be accepted with proceeds going to local charities. All are welcome.
