Legion to conduct flag day activity

The American Legion Post 73 of Murray will conduct a U.S. flag retirement ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Post Veterans’ Hall at 310 Bee Creek Drive. Anyone with a worn U.S. flag can bring it to the Post from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, June 12. The public is welcome to attend this ceremony.

MWC Delta Dept. meets Wednesday

The Delta Department of the Murray Woman’s Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Artisan Kitchen. Members are urged to attend this last meeting of the club year.

‘Pinta’ and ‘Nina’ to be at Grand Rivers

The “Pinta” and the “Nina,” replicas of Columbus’ ships, will open in Grand Rivers Thursday, June 13, at Green Turtle Bay. The ships will be docked until their departure early Monday, June 24. Admission charges are $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, $6.50 for students 5-16 and free for children 4 and under. The ships are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. No reservations are necessary. Ladies Auxiliary VFW to meet

Donations needed for used book sale

The Murray Middle School Band is preparing for its annual Fourth of July Used Book Sale on the front lawn of Murray Middle School. The funds raised through this annual sale will go toward transportation and special instruction for the upcoming school year. Donations of gently used books, games, puzzles and toys may be left at the front office of the school until the end of June.

crAFTER HOURS to be at MAG

crAFTER HOURS will be from 6-8 Thursday, June 13, at the Murray Art Guild Community Art Center. The June project will be mail art with Janeen. Participants will create unique fabric postcards using basic stitching techniques. Materials are provided and the cost is $25. The Calloway County High School Site-Based Decision-Making Council will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, in the school library.

Freedom Fest Parade planned

The annual Freedom Fest Parade, hosted by FNB Bank, is accepting application. The pride will begin at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 4, beginning at 10th Street and continuing down Main Street to the Briggs & Stratton Parking Lot. Lineup begins at 8 a.m. Those wishing to participate may apply online at mkyfreedomfest.com. Participation is free and the deadline is Friday, June 28, with no applications accepted late. ALS Support Group will meet

Sierra Club meeting to be held

The Great Rivers Sierra Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, in Room 1119 of the Murray State University Biology Building. The guest speaker is Dr. Jennifer Morris of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife who will speak about the removal of Asian carp in Western Kentucky waters. The public is invited to attend.
