MAG to host opening reception

The Murray Art Guild Community Art Center Gallery will host an opening reception of Margaret Merida’s “Cosmic Imaginings,” from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 7. Merida’s paintings are inspired by the Hubble telescope photographs and reflect her fascination of the mystery and beauty of the cosmos. This exhibit will be open until June 21.

MWC Garden Dept. meets Thursday

The Garden Department of the Murray Woman’s Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at the clubhouse. The program will be “Wrap Up and Looking Ahead.” The hostesses are Shirley Latto, Cathy Mathis and Sheila Poston.

Town & Gown Band to present concert

The Murray State University Town & Gown Community Band will present a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the Rotary Amphitheater in the Murray-Calloway County Central Park. The concert is free and open to the public.

CCPL to hold special called meeting

The Calloway County Public Library will have a special called meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4. This will be a video teleconference meeting. The agenda item is trustee selection.

MWC seeks vendors for marketplace

The first Murray Woman’s Club Marketplace will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in downtown Murray. This is a market for vendors selling fine arts, crafts, food, and will also include retail merchants. The market will be located around the court square and space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis once fees have been paid. Calloway to offer volleyball camp

The Calloway County Lady Laker Volleyball Team is hosting a volleyball camp for grades K-8. This two-day camp will be from 8-10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, at Calloway County High School Jeffrey Gymnasium. The cost is $40 per camper. Campers are encouraged to bring a water bottle, wear tennis shoes, shorts, T-shirt and knee pads. Calloway County Head Coach Lindsey Jones, assistant coach Melisa Hicks and CCMS Coach Ann Fraher, along with the Lady Laker Volleyball players will be instructing the camp on fundamental volleyball skills. Quilt tops sought

The Quilters of First United Methodist Church of Murray are seeking quilt tops to hand quilt. The quilt tops are hand quilted by a group of women from the church. Legion offers help to veterans   

Service officers Mark Kennedy, Bill Cowan and Ray Campbell of American Legion Post 73 will be available from 1-4 p.m. each Wednesday at 310 Bee Creek Drive to assist veterans and their families who need to file VA claim. The 2019 Rabies Clinic will be held this week. Rabies shots will be $11 each. No appointments are taken and vaccines are available to pets outside Calloway County. Clinics will be Wed. June 5, from 9-10 a.m. at Kirksey Methodist Church; 2-4 p.m. at Lynn Grove Gato’s Kitchen; and from 7-8 p.m. at the Calloway County Health Department; Thursday, June 6, from 9-10 a.m. at the Hazel Community Center, 2-4 p.m. at the Almo Fire Station, and from 7-8 p.m. at the CC Health Dept.; and Friday, June 7, from 9-10 a.m. at New Concord Church of Christ, and from 2-4 p.m. at Duncan’s Market on KY 94 East.
