MURRAY —The 2021 Arboretum at Murray State University Spring Plant Sale is set to start today.

The sale will be open first to customers designated as Paid Friends of the Arboretum who will have their chance to purchase plants from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and those same hours will be in effect for a session Friday as well. The general public will have its opportunity to shop on Saturday and Sunday, again with the same hours of 8 a.m, to 6 p.m. being available.

The sale features a wide variety of plants and flowers that have been developed by Murray State University students at the Arboretum facility.

Some stipulations have had to be included for this year’s sale due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

Customers will have to utilize a sign-up sheet in order to be able to shop. Also, a limit of 15 shoppers at a time will be in effect and that will be for a two-hour shopping window.

This year’s sale features a variety of spring bedding plants, hanging baskets, herbs, ferns and many more. The plants and flowers that will be available will range in price from as little as $2 to as much as $40.

Sales will go to benefit the university’s Horticulture Club, as well as the Murray State Horticulture Department that is part of the Hutson School of Agriculture.

The Arboretum is located at 300 Hickory Drive at the intersection of Hickory and Locust Street. This is a short distance from the Murray Elementary School campus.
