MURRAY — Illinois artist, teacher and gardener Craig Rhodes will be the featured speaker for the Calloway County Master Gardener Thursday Night Talk program, May 30, for a program on organic gardening at the Calloway County Extension Campus in Murray.
Rhodes, who resides in Massac County, Illinois, will discuss how and where he gardens, the particular plants he grows, composting, French intensive style gardening, double digging soil, organic vs. chemical methods, regenerative gardening and preserving the garden bounty. He will discuss the influence of organic and biodiversity advocates Alan Chadwick, John Jeavons, Ruth Stout and others.
“I have worked in or have had a garden since I was ten years old and continued my passion for almost every year for sixty years,” Rhodes said. “Everywhere I have lived, I have built and have left a garden including Murray, Hopkins County, the Adirondacks, Paducah and my current home in Massac County, Illinois on Reipe Ridge.”
The campus is at 93 Extension Way (formally 93 Schwartz Road). This lecture is free and opene to the general public
