Turbulence

Turbulence

By Stuart Woods

Summer is a great time to discover a new favorite series at the Calloway County Public Library.  This week’s rockin’ great summer read is “Turbulence,” Stuart Woods’ latest thrilling installment in the Stone Barrington series, one of the most popular series among CCPL readers.

Stone Barrington and friends Holly,  Dino, and Viv are hoping to enjoy a few restful days in Key West, Florida.  Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma is on course to put a severe crimp in their vacation plans.  Although they hadn’t planned on riding out the hurricane, circumstances have left them no other alternative.  Matters are made even worse, when Joe Box, an obnoxious, influential junior senator from Florida, winds up on Stone’s doorstep seeking shelter from the gale-force winds.  Although Box is soon on his way,  Stone soon learns that he hasn't seen the last of him.  It turns out that the self-serving senator “did a favor for a friend” which resulted in the release of  Selwyn Owaki, a big-time arms dealer who was in jail awaiting trial, largely because of Stone’s testimony during his bail hearing. Owaki is in league with powerful world figures, and there are destructive plans afoot not only for Stone but the nations of the world.  Now, Stone must employ his daring ingenuity to stop the blatantly bold plot before time runs out.

Stuart Woods is a No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of over sixty novels and is arguably one of the most prolific writers of our time (in December he will have released six new titles in 2018, alone). With so many titles to his credit, readers may be surprised to learn that it took him eight years to complete his first novel that was published in 1981.  The novel was called “Chiefs.”   According to the author’s website, “though only twenty thousand copies were printed in hardback, the book achieved a large paperback sale and was made into a six-hour television drama for CBS-TV, starring Charlton Heston, at the head of an all-star cast that included Danny Glover, Billy Dee Williams, and John Goodman.”

Other new 2018 Stuart Woods’ titles currently available at the Calloway County Public Library include “Unbound” and “Shoot First: Think Later.”  CCPL has placed orders for each of Stuart Woods’ upcoming titles set for 2018 publication including the August release of  “The Money Shot,” the October release of “Desperate Measures” and the December release of “A Delicate Touch” and will add each to the catalog when received.

Readers can find Stuart Woods’ series titles, in a variety of formats including print, eBook, and eAudio at the Calloway County Public Library. CCPL is located at 710 Main Street, Murray, KY and online at www.callowaycountylibrary.org.
