The Beach House Cookbook
By Mary Kay Andrews
The Calloway County Public Library is a bevy of excitement in preparation for the upcoming visit of New York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews. In anticipation of Ms. Andrews’ visit, CCPL Great Reads takes a second look at “The Beach House Cookbook,” which features a collection of Mary Kay’s favorite recipes.
Mary Kay Andrews writes in her charming preface for “The Beach House Cookbook” that she has always loved summers at the beach—from her childhood vacation days, the beach cottage rentals as a young family, to making her dream of owning a beach house a reality with her husband and family. Cooking and entertaining are two of her favorite things when staying at her beach house—casual suppers, family get-togethers and holiday celebrations—simple and fun, kind of like a day at the beach—any time of the year.
“The Beach House Cookbook” is filled with tantalizing, easy to make recipes and themed menus perfect for summer entertaining. Who wouldn’t love an invitation to a Summer Solstice Dinner with a menu of James T’s Secret Iced Tea, Zucchini Vichyssoise and Beyond the Grave Chicken Salad (anyone remember this recipe from “Little Bitty Lies?”) Tomato Pie, Ritualistic Pimento Cheese and Trailer Trash Dessert? Other menu ideas include a Low Country Boil, Fourth of July Dinner and a Book Bash Cocktail Party. Beautifully photographed, fun to read and highly recommended—even for non-cooks.
Also recommended is Mary Kay’s newest beach read entitled “Sunset Beach” which just released on May 7. According to the publisher, readers are invited to “pull up a lounge chair and have a cocktail on ‘Sunset Beach’—it comes with a twist.” “Sunset Beach” features a bit of romance, a hint of suspense, and is a guaranteed CCPL Great Read!
Mary Kay Andrews is the New York Times bestselling author of 24 novels including “Savannah Blues,” “Savannah Bliss,” “Blue Christmas,” and “Christmas Bliss,” which features Eloise “Weezie” Foley, an antique dealer and her best friend, Bebe Loudermilk.
Readers can find “The Beach House Cookbook,” “Sunset Beach,” and other terrific titles by Mary Kay Andrews, in a variety of formats at the Calloway County Public Library. CCPL is located at 710 Main Street and online at www.callowaycountylibrary.org.
Mary Kay Andrews’ upcoming CCPL visit is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. The event is presented free of charge by the Calloway County Public Library and the Friends of the Calloway County Public Library. Seating is limited and online registration is required.
