MURRAY – Murray Independent School District has been recognized as a 2019 Best School in America by Niche! MISD is ranked number three out of 168 K-12 Kentucky public school districts. While MISD follows closely behind number one Fort Thomas and number two Beechwood, MISD is among the elite eight independent school districts represented in the top ten.
When viewing the top spot MISD took at third place, each respective MISD school garnered their own top placements. Murray High School ranked number 10, (out of 242). Murray Middle Schools ranked number 3 (out of 309) middle schools. Murray Elementary School is the fourth top elementary school among Kentucky’s 704 elementary schools.

The 2019 Best School Distric ts ranking is based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education. Ranking factors include state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, public school district ratings and more.
In 2016, the Murray Independent School District ranked number 1 per the Kentucky Performance Rating of Academic Performance (KDE), while over 500 state-approved individuals logged more than 25,000 each year, as well as an active school-business partnership program, which actively nurtures the MISD daily guidance to its students.
MHS is the only Kentucky high school recognized by ACT with its first College and Career Readiness Award, and as an ACT third place finalist in the nation’s high schools for College and Career Readiness. MISD was the first Kentucky district to receive AdvanceED Accreditation under new standards.
A Murray Middle school parent volunteer expressed the campus-wide MISD contagious spirit reflected across the district. “Murray’s foundation is built on the importance of relationships. Students and families are valued as educational partners, who work together to achieve primary goals to grow students as productive citizens in today’s world. Achieving this wouldn’t be possible without a common goal set forth, to prepare students for the best opportunity for a successful future.”
