641 widening work continues

David P’Poole of Princeton, owner of Hopkinsville’s Westate Construction Inc., measures the depth of a trench as Tim Waters of Eddyville continues down the line with a trencher. The company was digging to install an edge drain along U.S. 641 South, where contractors are widening the highway to four lanes between Murray and the Kentucky/Tennessee state line. Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the contractor for Phase I, which is budgeted at about $6 million and extends northward from the Clarks River Bridge to the intersection of Glendale Road. The overall project is being funded by a $23 million federal BUILD (Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development) Transportation Discretionary Grant.
