Fatal Fire in Murray

Murray police and fire personnel survey the charred remains of a mobile home that was destroyed by fire early this morning at Riviera Courts Mobile Home Community. One person died as a result of the blaze.

MURRAY — Calloway County Coroner Ricky Garland says that an early-morning fire today has claimed the life of a Murray woman.

Garland identified the victim as Lanie Gray, 19, of Murray. He said she is the person firefighters removed from a burning unit within the Riviera Courts Mobile Home Community on Murray’s north side.

City of Murray Fire Chief Eric Pologruto said the fire was reported at about 4:30 this morning and firefighters were on the scene in about two minutes. However, by the time, they had arrived, the mobile home was heavily engulfed in flames. The call had also reported that one person was trapped inside.

He said one firefighter immediately began operating a hose on the outside of the mobile home, while two other firefighters went inside to search for the person trapped and found someone not long after making entry. Firefighters then turned the person over to awaiting personnel with the Murray-Calloway County Ambulance Service, but it was determined that the victim had succumbed to injuries received from the fire.

Garland said an autopsy is planned for today in Madisonville.
