National Donate Life Month declared

Calloway County Judge-Executive Kenny Imes, left at table, and City of Murray Mayor Bob Rogers, right at table, signed a proclamation Friday morning declaring that the month of April be National Donate Life Month locally. Witnessing the ceremony were numerous beneficiaries of organ and tissue donations, their families and other supporters from Calloway County, as well as patients currently on the waiting list. Calloway County is the 23rd-leading county in Kentucky for percentage of residents who are registered organ and tissue donors (64 percent), which is well above the national average. Nationally, more than 120,000 are on a waiting list for a life-saving transplant with about 1,000 of those residing in Kentucky. The Calloway Circuit Court Clerk's Office's efforts with the statewide Trust for Life is a major driver for the local success of registration.
