Betty McPhail


Betty McPhail, 84, of Murray, Kentucky, died at 10:03 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at her residence.

She was born May 24, 1935, in Calloway County, Kentucky, to Jess Hale and Mary Andrus Hale.

She was a cook at East Calloway Elementary School and attended North Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard McPhail; a sister, Louella Hale; and a brother, Don Hale.

Mrs. McPhail is survived by her son, Robert McPhail of Dexter; her daughters, Debra Alexander and husband Steve of Morris, Illinois, and Jeanette Rich of  Murray; brothers, Jimmy Hale and wife Robbie of Hazel, Bonnia Hale of Plant City, Florida, and Jackie Hale of Hazel; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hale of Murray; eight grandchildren, Heather Hunter, Amy Bischoff, Brenda Gerber, Jana Rich, Julie Barlow, Lydia Porter, Christina Alexander and Nathan McPhail; and nine great-grandchildren.  

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Murray Memorial Gardens with Sammy Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Blalock, Coleman & York Funeral Home.

Rose Marie Hargadon

Rose Marie Hargadon, 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, died Friday, May 31, 2019.

She was born June 1, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to William and Louise Hargadon.

She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and the Murray Woman’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ron, Kenny and Jack; a son, Michael Higgins;  and a daughter, Julia Price.

Mrs. Hargadon is survived by her children, Kathleen Roy, Pat Higgins, Theresa Friedrich (Mike), Donna Thompson (Mike) and Kevin Higgins (Karen); 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

The funeral service will be at noon Thursday, June 6, 2019, in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2017, and from 10 a.m. until the service hour Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the funeral home.

Juanita Kay Derby, 81, of Murray, Kentucky, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House in Murray.
