Monette Barham Blackford

Monette Barham Blackford, 82, of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House in Murray.

She was born June 20, 1936, in Fulton County, Kentucky, to Wille Morris Barham Sr. and Allie Mai Taylor Barham. 

She retired from Bell South Telephone Company. She was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church and a member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers. She had a love of crocheting, as well as teaching others the craft. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Blackford; one sister, Mary Bondurant; two brothers, James Thomas Barham and Willie Maurice Barham Jr.; one stepdaughter, Sherry Harmon; and a stepgranddaughter, Emily Blackford.  

Mrs. Blackford is survived by three stepdaughters, Rebecca Wright and husband Dan, Lisa Cox and husband Billy, all of Murray, and Robyn Looper and husband Chad of Mayfield; one stepson, Wayne Blackford and wife Susan of Murray; one sister, Carolyn Faulkner of South Fulton, Tennessee; 12 step grandchildren, Aaron Noffsinger and wife Jen, Ashley Noffsinger, Samantha Bowland and husband Aaron, Lyndsey Looper, Will Blackford and wife Kristy, Elizabeth Morse and husband Matt, Joe Ben Hendrick, Matt Hendrick, Margaret Hendrick, Gabe Clark, Quentin Cox and Cheri Beth Malloy; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren, Hannah Hendrick, Faith Hendrick, Caleb Noffsinger, Emily Noffsinger, Hank Morse, Fitz Blackford, Brianna Malloy and Bailey Malloy. 

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Rob Ison officiating. Entombment will follow in Murray Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019, at the funeral home.

Billy Burkeen, 76, of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

He was born Sept. 27, 1942, to James Hugh and Earis Weatherford Burkeen.

He was employed by Tappan until 1977 and then worked at Greenfiled Bros. Tire in Marshall County until 1982. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing and on special trips, and always loved having them close. He attended Palestine Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Black, and a brother, James W. Burkeen.

Mr. Burkeen is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Roberts Burkeen; two daughters, Kathy Jane Dillon and husband Daniel of Dexter and Karon Sue Perry and husband Bobby of Murray; one son, Mickey Hill and wife Beth of Benton; seven grandchildren, Jessica Baladaz (Jason) of Forney Texas, Heidi Bierderman of Murray, Codie Clark (Shelby) of Murray, Danyel Clark (best friend Cody) of Murray, Braxton Perry of Murray and Chase and Chance Hill of Benton; nine great-grandchildren, Kristian Andrus, Jade, James Cameron, Elaina, Conner and Dionica Baladaz and Owen and Evelyn Clark of Murray; and three sisters, Melodine Nanney of Hardin and Janette Flowers and Jennie Carrol (Mark), both of Murray. 

The funeral service will be at noon Tuesday March 12, 2019, at Imes Funeral Home & Crematory, downtown Murray, with Ricky Cunningham, Richard Burkeen and James Keeling officiating. Burial will follow in Murray Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Codie Clark, Braxton Perry, Codi Alsobroke, Larry Nimmo and Tim Dotson. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019, at the funeral home.

Frances A. Flood, 99, of Murray, Kentucky, died Friday, March 8, 2019, at Spring Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Murray.  

She was born on May 12, 1919 in the Goose Hollow area of Trigg County to Reba Earl and Lillie Cunningham Allen. At the age of 4, the family moved to Between the Rivers. On July 17, 1939, she married Eura M. Flood. They farmed Between the Rivers until they were forced to move in 1962 because of the impoundment of Lake Barkley. They relocated in Calloway County.  

There she was involved in the everyday duties of the family farm.  In 1976, at the death of her husband, she took a job at Murray- Calloway County Hospital in housekeeping, retiring from there in 1983, while still overseeing the farm. A member of Locust Grove Baptist Church since 1963, at her passing, she was the oldest member. At Locust Grove Baptist Church, she especially enjoyed being a part of the Senior Adult Women’s Sunday School Class and was one of the last two surviving members of the class. 

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Ellen Scott Ezell; one great great granddaughter, Emily Scott Cook; four Brothers, Ragon Allen, Kenny Allen, Lacy Allen and James Allen; and two sisters, Monico Oakley and Lucy Oglesby.

She is survived by one son, Larry Flood and wife Marilyn of Murray; one Daughter, June Kay Ezell and husband Roy of Cadiz; four grandchildren, Cynthia "Cindy" Ezell-Hinson, Rory Scott Ezell  and wife Beth, Amber Henshaw and husband Jack and Allen Flood and wife Lindsay; seven great grandchildren, Jack Ezell, Will Ezell, Sam Ezell, Corban Henshaw, Gadden Henshaw, Noah Flood and Daphne Hinson; two great great grandchildren, Sabrina Cook and Madison Cook; and one great great great grandson, Lukas Cook.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2019, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main St. in Cadiz with Bro. Hal Shipley, Bro. Jack Henshaw and Pastor Allen Flood officiating and Rory Scott Ezell providing the eulogy. Burial will follow at Murray Memorial Gardens in Murray. 

The family received friends Sunday at the funeral home.

William Lee

William Lee, 85, of Dexter, Kentucky, died Friday, March 8, 2019, at Spring Creek Healthcare in Murray.

He was born on Feb. 2, 1934 in Calloway County to William Elvin and Maydell Byers Lee. He served his country in the United States  Army. He retired from auto body repair.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Lee; three daughters, Deborah Lynn, Dianna Lyn and Sandy Lormand; two sisters, Hazel Scalf and Cleva Jean Scarborough; and one grandchild, Teia DeAnne Todd. 

He is survived by two sons, Danny Lee of Dexter and Terry Lee of California; a daughter, Valerie Wendling of Dexter; five grandchildren, William Lee of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Cody Lee of Dexter, Michael Lee Koon of Murray, Lori Swift of Murray and Charlotte Denay Koon of Murray, an uncle, Charles Byers of Murray; and a daughter-in-law, Tonya Walker Grogan.

A graveside service with military honors is set for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Murray Memorial Gardens. John Dale will officiate.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Imes Funeral Home and Crematory, downtown Murray.
