Thomas James Maxwell

Thomas James Maxwell, 65, of Murray, Kentucky, died Thursday, Oct.1, 2015 at his home.

He was born in Leeds, New York on Nov. 19, 1949 to Michael T. Maxwell and Maureen Keyes Maxwell, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Maxwell was employed by Hawaiian Tropic in Murray for 28 years before retiring from Morning Star Foods in Murray. He received both his bachelor’s degree in history and his master’s degree in education from Murray State University.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife, Shawn Brockhoff Maxwell of Murray, to whom he married on July 30, 1977 in Murray; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann O’Keefe and husband Dan from College Point, New York and Sheila Farrell of Athens, New York; one brother, Michael Maxwell of Schenectady, New York; and nephews, Dan O’Keefe of Long Beach, New York; Brian O’Keefe of College Point; Scott Brockhoff of Villa Hills; and Luke Brockhoff of Green Cove Springs, Florida.

Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, from 4:30-7 p.m., at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Friends are invited to a tribute for Tom on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at 5:30 p.m., at the Oaks Country Club Golf Course.

Martha S. Colson

Martha S. Colson, 84, of West Paducah, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015 at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

She was born Jan. 12, 1931 in Hazel, Kentucky.

She was a member of Heath Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Augusta Tilghman High School and attended Paducah Junior College. She worked at several different jobs over the years but the role that best defined her was as a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, W.C. Colson; parents, Jesse D. and Mattie Wright Sowell; a sister, Gertrude S. Clark and four brothers, Reavis Sowell, Clovis Sowell, Eunice Sowell and Fred Sowell.

Mrs. Colson is survived by four children, William Colson and wife Cindy of Morganfield, John Colson and wife Robin of West Paducah, Rebecca Henson and husband Lewis of West Paducah, Jane Colson-Gins of Lawrenceville, Georgia; a brother J.D. Sowell of Lexington; 10 grandchildren, Bree Snow and husband Bob of Paducah, Brooke Ibrahim and husband Murad of California, Blake Colson and wife Annie of Calvert City, Kevin Henson and wife Sheryl of Benton, Hillary Henson of Henderson, Meredith Kelley of Kevil, Morgan Hyatte of Kevil, Lonnie Allen of Lawrenceville; Jacob Colson of West Paducah, Bronson Colson of West Paducah; 10 great-grandchildren, Zoe Taylor, Brantley Kelley, Madeline Colson, Landon Colson, Jolie Colson, Jasee Nichols, Isabella Smith, Amerrah, Amani and Amal Ibrahim.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at Murray Memorial Gardens with Martin Severns officiating.

Janette Webb Murdock

Janette Webb Murdock, 79, of Murray, Kentucky, died Wednesday, Oct. 07, 2015 at the Murray-Calloway County Hospital, Murray.

She was born in Graves County, Kentucky on June 14, 1936 to Johnie Webb and Sophine Wilson Webb.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Williams Chapel Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Franklin Murdock, who died on May 9, 1992 and her parents.

Mrs. Murdock is survived by one daughter, Vonda Kay Murdock of Murray; one son, Barry “Bear Cat” Murdock and soul mate Ginger Smith of Lynn Grove; four sisters, Gerelene Newsome of Missouri, Mavis Dean Murdock and husband Alfred of Lynn Grove; Laretta Stidham of Lexington; and Martha Milam and husband Jerry of Bowling Green; one stepsister, Ruthie Wilferd of Farmington; one stepbrother, Bryant Kerns of Mayfield; one grandson, Wesley Burris and fiancé Becca Edmonds; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home with Charles Miles and Ed Davis officiating and remarks by K. Bryan Ernstberger. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery in Lynn Grove, Kentucky. Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 from 5–8 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Hill

James Hill, 94, of Manteno, Illinois, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at the Illinois Veteran Home, Manteno.

He was born Oct. 16, 1920, in Farmington, Kentucky, to Landie and Evie Darnell Hill.

He was a retired welder repairman for Ford Motor Company. He served in the US Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Clara L. Pea, whom he married Aug. 23, 1941 in Charleston, Missouri. She preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 1999. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Collie Hill and a sister, Era Young.

Mr. Hill is survived by two daughters, Kathy Taylor and Sandra Bayston and husband Donald, both of Bourbonnais, Illinois; a son, James Hill and wife Linda of Spring Branch, Texas; a sister, Catherine Wyatt of Murray; a brother, Claude Hill and wife Jessie of Mayfield; a brother-in-law, Roy David Pea of Fort Myers, Florida; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 at 2 p.m., at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bazzell Cemetery, Farmington. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Dean Bland

Elizabeth Dean Bland, 70, of Murray, Kentucky, died at 8:51 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015 at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.

She was born Aug. 10, 1945 in Murray, Kentucky, to John Cullen Futrell and Willie Franklin Crutcher Futrell,who preceded her in death.

She was a member of Russell Chapel United Methodist Church and retired from Fisher Price/Mattel.

Mrs. Bland is survived by her husband, James Bland; a daughter, Jennifer Dean Bland of Murray; two grandchildren, Autumn Bland and Trayce Burriss; sisters, Patricia Howell and husband Darrell of Dover, Tennessee and Jackie Helm and husband Ray of Murray; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Bland Smith and husband Winford of Alabama.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015 at Russell Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronnie Burkeen officiating. Burial will follow in the Fossett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at Blalock-Coleman & York Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at the church.
