MURRAY — Murray State’s Evelyn Adebayo and Macey Turley have become household names on the Ohio Valley Conference weekly award lists.
The pair swept this week’s awards, with Turley being named OVC Freshman of the Week and Adebayo being named the conference Newcomer and Player of the Week this week.
Turley earned her sixth honor as Freshman of the Week, which is the highest in the conference. UT Martin’s Damiah Griffin is the closest player to her with three honors.
The freshman averaged 19 points per game for the week, with her best performance coming against SIUE, where she scored 20 points, pulled down five rebounds and recorded seven assists in the Racers’ 81-75 win over the Cougars.
Turley was also a perfect 20-of-20 from the charity stripe, making 10 free throws in each game. She is currently shooting 87 percent from the free throw line this season.
Adebayo has been a regular for Newcomer of the Week, winning her ninth of the season, and her eighth accolade in the last nine weeks, and her fifth consecutive. She also claimed her third Player of the Week honor thanks to her performance.
Her nine Newcomer of the week honors is the most in the conference. Alyiah Jeune from Morehead State is the closest to Adebayo with four.
The London, England native recorded back-to-back double doubles in the Racers’ two wins last week. She averaged a ridiculous 18 rebounds per game in the two games, including a career-high 20 rebounds against Eastern Illinois. Adebayo finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds in the Racers’ win over SIUE. Her 15 double-doubles on the season is one shy of the single season record set by Karen Hubert Price and Stephanie Minor.
Adebayo’s performance also garnered some national attention, as she was named College Sports Madness’ National Mid-Major Player of the Week.
Murray State has won three of its last four and will try to make it four of five when it takes on Eastern Kentucky on Thursday in McBrayer Arena.
