MURRAY—Josh Burks and Terri Pickens fired a 10-under 62 on Saturday to win a weather-shortened Kings and Queens Tournament at the Murray Country Club this weekend.

The Murray duo bested Ron and Linda Underwood of Sikeston, Missouri by two strokes as 32 teams throughout the region participated in the 36th annual tournament. David and Linda Brann finished in third with a 64.

Weather forced cancellation of the final round late Sunday afternoon after the start was delayed and another storm roared through the course around 5 p.m. Most of the teams were just over halfway through the final round.

“We hated to call the tournament, but the weather was a challenge all weekend,” Murray Country Club general manager Chad English said. 32 teams participated in the 36th annual tournament. “We are always proud to show off the course and we had a lot of compliments despite the weather. It’s the first look some of these teams have had since our upgrades over the last year.”

The highlights Saturday include an ace from Burks at the 122-yard 11th hole. David Brann and Debbie Bard also had closest to the pin honors.

Brian and Debbie Bard won the first flight with a 70, while Randy Lee and Gwen Mathis were a stroke back at 71 and Norman and Jo Brown finished third at 72.

There was a three way tie in the second flight at 76, with James and Shirley Traylor winning on count back over Chris and Tammy Puckett and Chad and Sarah Richardson.

The next tournament at Murray Country Club is the Max Hurt Memorial Two-Person Scramble hosted by the Murray Rotary Club.
